NATIONAL INFLUENZA VACCINATION WEEK

December 6th – 12th is National Influenza Vaccination Week and it is not too late to get your flu shot!

Did you know? A yearly flu vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months and older. Vaccination is especially important for protecting people at high risk of serious flu complications, including:

  • young children
  • pregnant women
  • adults 65 years and older
  • anyone with chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes or heart disease

You’ve got your flu shot… now what?! Here are additional ways to protect against the flu and remain healthy this flu season:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing
  • Clean your hands. Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
  • Practice other good health habits. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, work or school, especially when someone is sick. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
