Johnson Health Center is expanding in Amherst County with the new Amherst County Community Health Center.
Johnson Health Center’s (JHC) impact is expanding in the Central Virginia region. Aligned with its mission to provide affordable and comprehensive healthcare with quality services and strong community partnerships, JHC has broken ground to build the new Amherst County Community Health Center.
This new health center will combine many current services including adult and children’s medical and dental, behavioral health, pharmacy with drive-thru, and provide a wellness center designed to facilitate nutritional education and physical fitness. This building will be approximately 22,000 square feet and will consolidate three existing Amherst County facilities into one larger facility.
Together, let’s support JHC’s Power of Health Capital Campaign to create a healthier community and enhance the quality of life for those who live and work in the Central Virginia region.

Founded in 1998, JHC is a non-profit, independent, federally qualified health center serving the City of Lynchburg and the counties of Amherst, Bedford and Campbell. The health center is governed by a board of directors composed of at least 51% of its patient population. Community health centers were created more than 50 years ago in order to increase access to healthcare in medically underserved areas. All insurances are accepted and reduced fees are offered to those who qualify financially. JHC is proud to offer comprehensive healthcare services to anyone seeking care in the community.
JHC’s approach to integrated healthcare provides a foundational support system for patients focusing on accessibility. The new facility will have twenty medical exam rooms, three behavioral health exam rooms, and eleven dental operatories.
Focused on comfort and compassion, JHC gives each patient the best quality care available. Providers work with complex community needs requiring collaborative teamwork and innovative treatments.
JHC will continue to measure success under an integrated healthcare model in the new Amherst County Community Health Center. Multiple services under one roof will allow for better communication and collaboration, which will benefit patients and provide better health outcomes. JHC is looking to make a positive impact in the community and be a leader in providing quality healthcare.

JHC provides services to over 27,000 individual patients with nearly 100,000 visits in 2022. Now, JHC is looking to expand service capacity even further as the needs of patients continue to grow throughout the central Virginia region. The expansion is projected to increase visits by over 15,000 once the new facility is fully operational. JHC will continue to build on its successes and expand access to healthcare with the construction of the new Amherst County Community Health Center due to open in 2024.
The new Amherst County Community Health Center has a financial commitment of $9.5M. Funds have been secured through local and national grant funding, JHC board of director’s restricted funds, and bank financing.
To make up the difference, JHC has launched its first-ever capital campaign in an effort to raise a minimum of $1M through charitable donations. You are invited to join us in participating in JHC’s Power of Health Capital Campaign to support efforts to provide affordable and comprehensive healthcare with quality services!
Your gift will provide the critical capital needed for JHC to complete the new build, buy equipment, begin operations, and prepare for the anticipated and unanticipated costs associated with a new facility. There are many ways to donate to the campaign including giving through the online donation form found on the JHC webpage, completing a pledge, mailing a personal or corporate check, facilitating a wire transfer, giving gifts of stock, and other giving approaches.
Many opportunities for partners to create legacy funding are available to help the thousands of patients for years to come. JHC will recognize donors in a manner honoring individuals, families, and organizations to inspire others. Named gift opportunities will be given to donors on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Your gift can also be designated to support specific service areas or equipment in the new Amherst County Community Health Center. Aligning with your individual or corporate interest, you may choose to endow one or more of the new service areas including medical, dental, behavioral health, and pharmacy areas or specialized equipment such as state of the art medical x-ray, pharmaceutical robot, panoramic dental imaging equipment, or exercise equipment.
Together, let’s support JHC’s Power of Health Capital Campaign to create a healthier community and enhance the quality of life for those who live and work in the Central Virginia region.
